What to Expect

Fishing Big Bear Lake is not one experience all year. Trout are the fish most visitors associate with the lake, but bass, channel catfish and panfish are also present, and where you fish can change as the water warms or cools. You can keep it simple from shore, rent a fishing boat, bring a permitted private vessel or book a charter if you want local help finding fish.

If you fished one shoreline spot successfully on a previous trip, don't assume it will fish the same way months later. Big Bear's trout move with changing water conditions, which is why asking a local tackle shop what is happening now can be more useful than following an old online fishing report.

Parking and Access

Getting There

Use legal shoreline access or an operating marina/launch facility. Fishing is prohibited from the Dam and in posted no-fishing areas. Boat access requires the appropriate launch, permit and inspection procedures.
