Directions to Big Bear Lake

Big Bear Lake is just a scenic two-hour drive from most of Southern California, making it one of the easiest mountain escapes for weekend adventurers. Whether you’re driving from Los Angeles, San Diego, or Palm Springs, several routes wind their way through the San Bernardino Mountains — each offering its own views and stops along the way.

Before heading up, check current road conditions and weather updates, especially during winter when snow and ice can affect travel. Chains may be required on Highway 18, 38, or 330 during snowstorms, but the roads are well maintained and plowed regularly. For those visiting in warmer months, the drive itself becomes part of the experience — with panoramic views, pull-offs for photos, and connecting scenic drives like the Rim of the World Highway or the route to Lake Arrowhead.
