If you are traveling with your dog, the Big Bear Bark Park is likely the first stop on your itinerary. But what many visitors don’t realize is that the dog park is just one piece of a much larger lakeside experience at Meadow Park.
From off-leash play to "secret" beach access and the best local Friday traditions, here is everything you need to know about Big Bear’s favorite pet-friendly hub.
Where to Find It: Location & Logistics
The Bark Park is located at 41220 Park Ave, perfectly situated on the southern shore between The Village and Moonridge. It’s tucked right between Ski Beach and Meadow Park.
- Local’s Direction: To find the park from Big Bear Blvd, turn onto Jeffries Road (you’ll see the iconic Grizzly Manor Cafe on the corner). Follow Jeffries straight back to Park Avenue.
- Parking: There is a large dedicated parking lot available. If the main lot is full—which often happens during peak summer hours or sunsets—legal street parking is available along Park Avenue.
- Hours: The park is open daily from dusk till dawn, giving your pup plenty of time to enjoy the fresh mountain air.
The Dog Park Experience
The Bark Park is a fully enclosed, off-leash area designed for safe socialization.
- Separated Play: The park is divided into separate fenced areas for small and large dogs. This ensures a comfortable experience for all breeds, though the overall footprint of the park is on the smaller side.
- The Ground Cover: The surface is primarily sandy dirt. While great for a game of chase, it can become quite muddy after wet weather or during the spring snowmelt. We recommend keeping a towel in the car for "mountain paws"!

- Amenities: Inside each fenced area, you’ll find benches to relax on while your pup plays. While waste disposal bags are usually provided, we suggest bringing your own just in case the dispensers are being refilled.
Meadow Park: Sports, Grass, and Views
The Bark Park sits within the larger Meadow Park complex, which is a massive asset for families. Even if your dog is on a leash, you can enjoy:
- Tennis & Basketball: On-site tennis courts and open-air basketball courts.
- Open Green Space: Large grassy fields that are perfect for a picnic or a quiet stroll.
- The Shoreline Walk: If you walk down to the end of the park, you’ll be rewarded with stunning, unobstructed views of Big Bear Lake.
Insider Secret: Accessing the Sandy Beach
One of the best-kept secrets of this area is the water access. If you pass through the natural shrubs at the far end of the park (just past the dog park area), you can access a quiet, sandy beach. While you should always keep your dog on a leash here, it is a beautiful, low-traffic spot to sit by the water and watch the boats go by.
Pro-Tip: The Friday Farmers Market
From April through October, the area next to the dog park at Ski Beach/Meadow Park hosts the Big Bear Farmers Market every Friday (typically 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM).
- The Routine: We suggest hitting the Bark Park first to let your dog get their energy out, then walking over to the market.
- Dog-Friendly Shopping: Dogs are welcome at the market! It’s a great place to grab local honey, fresh produce, or handmade crafts.
- Parking Alert: During the Farmers Market, the parking lot becomes very difficult to navigate. If you’re visiting on a Friday, plan to use the street parking on Park Avenue and walk a block or two.

Safety & Wildlife
While Meadow Park is a developed area, remember you are in the mountains. Always stay cautious as wild animals, including coyotes and the rare bear sighting, can occur in the early morning or late evening. There are no lights in the dog park at night, so plan to wrap up your visit by sunset!
